"My village in the jungle" - short stories from Åsta

Hello everybody!
I arrived in Sri Lanka a week ago, and I'm having a good time with my host family, Siripala, Sriyani and Charika. Here is a photo of me, harvesting pepper in the garden.
When pepper is harvested, you have to boil it for two minutes, and after that you let it dry in the sun. How long it has to dry, depends on the weather and the sunshine.
In Mr. Siripala’s garden there are 500 pepper plants, that yields approx 50 kg of dried pepper for sale. Even though it sounds like a lot of pepper, it does not amount very much to his income. He makes around 10,000 rupies a year from growing pepper.
Lot of greetings from Åsta
