Flood threats worsen in Kalutara


Torrential rains that continued last morning worsened the flood threat in the Kalutara district with water levels rising in Madurawala, Millaniya, Bulathsinghala and other areas. Meanwhile the Kaluganga, Maguru ganga and Kukuleganga were also about to spill over. The water level in Kaluganga had risen to 4.2 ft above mean sea level. Authorities reported that 121,312 members of 29,577 families had been displaced, and more than 300 houses had been destroyed or damaged by earth slips. Source: Daily Mirror
