Turning on the tap: Clean water to our villages!

Today, HELP could finally celebrate the opening up of the new main (the principal pipe) with public water to people of Aggona and Dolahena.
- How long is the water pipeline, Siripala?

- To the village of Dolahena, the main is 360 meters long. And to our neighbor village Aggona the pipeline is 300 meters long.

- Can you tell us how many households units are provided with public water in Dolahena and Aggona, that is, water piped onto their premises?

- So far, only 4 units have been provided with public water. Some parts of the main still have to be completed. And still some people has to pay the water hook-up fee, and other people also have to apply for the service. So you understand that the procedure is still on the way.

- Are all taps within the house/premises, or do you also have public tap stands outside premises (along the road)?

- We are planning, still. Not everything is decided.

- You told me, that you held the opening ceremony yesterday? Who participated and who lectured at the meeting? What happened? And what is the board (see photo) illustrating?

- First the Sathkara children welcomed the guests, and we unveiled the board and opened up the valve controlling water flow of the main. Member of Parliament Vidura Wickramanayake participated as chief guest and members of our local Pradeshiya Sabha (‘kommunestyre’), regional chief of the water board and the villagers from Dolahena and Aggona all participated.

The board (see photo) illustrates that the government has spent much money for the water supply. Being the chairman, I welcomed the guests and the people at our meeting. Our MP Vidura, as well as a member of our Pradeshiya Sabha and the regional chief of the water board lectured at the meeting.
